About Coach Frank Allocco, Sr.
Coach Allocco founded Excel in Basketball in 1981 with the desire to motivate, mentor, and model to the boys and girls in his hometown of New Providence, New Jersey. Excel truly is his passion and his commitment to the children of Excel is now on its second generation! Through his leadership, Excel has earned its reputation as one of the finest teaching camps in the country.
Frank was an All-State performer in Football, Basketball and Baseball at New Providence High School. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Notre Dame where he was a three year letterman as a quarterback under the legendary Coach Ara Parseghian and won the 1973 National Championship in a stunning victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. He also played for the Irish Basketball Team under Coach Digger Phelps that advanced the the NIT Championship game. After graduation from college, Frank moved to Northern California where he became a long time youth basketball coach and administrator. In 1981, he created the Excel Basketball Camps which have served over one hundred thousand students. Excel has earned its reputation as one of the finest teaching camps in the country, inspiring boys and girls on both coasts! After 15 years of coaching boys and girls of all ages and ability at the youth level, Coach embarked on a new challenge at the high school level when he accepted the Head Coaching position at Northgate High School. Coach Allocco has won every major award presented to High School Coaches as he built an impressive resume at Northgate and De La Salle High School. He is just the 27th coach in California State History to win over 600 games and achieved that milestone faster than any coach in State History. He is also second All-Time in Winning Percentage in California Interscholastic History. Coaching Honors won include: National Coach of the Year, National Catholic Coach of the Year, California State Coach of the Year, East Bay Coach of the Year and North Coast Section Honors Coach. Coach Allocco has served as the Head Coach of the Michael Jordan All American Game in Madison Square Garden where he mentored NBA Players Kevin Durant, Spencer Hawes, Tywon Lawson and Brian Zoubek. He was also the Head Coach of the Reebok Academic All-American Game in Los Angeles, and the Head Coach of the Elite Showcase Basketball Classic All-American Game. In 2014, Coach Allocco coached in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game where he coached Jahlil Okafor, Stanley Johnson, Joel Berry, Emmanuel Mudiay, Tyler Ulis, Devin Booker and many others who went on to join NBA rosters. Coach Allocco coached at the collegiate level in 2016, serving as the Associate Head Coach at the University of San Francisco. He currently is the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of San Francisco.
