About Excel Basketball Camp

Picture

Excel Basketball Camp was founded in 1981 by Coach Frank Allocco, Sr. . Coach Allocco was a three sport New Jersey All-State athlete from New Providence High School who went on to play basketball and football at the University of Notre Dame. He then coached youth basketball for 15 years before becoming a Hall of Fame Coach at Northgate High School and De La Salle High School. His 87% winning percentage is second in California history and he is the only coach in California history to win a State Championship at a public and a private school.

Coach Allocco was recognized as the National High School Coach of the Year in 2000 and the National Catholic Coach of the Year in 2012. His national recognition includes a stint as the Head Coach of the McDonald's All-American game and the Michael Jordan All-American game in Madison Square Garden.

Despite his accomplishments, his passion is Excel. Coach Allocco's vision was to create a basketball camp that would teach the fundamentals of basketball to players from "coast to coast." Coach drew upon his experience as a youth coach, high school coach, and collegiate coach to provide a program that would teach the game of basketball and the positive values of Teamwork, Sportsmanship, and Commitment to Excellence both on and off the court. For 44 years, Excel has been a cornerstone in the hundreds of thousands of lives motivated and mentored by our passionate staff. The Camp is dedicated to the many coaches who inspired coach to be more, particularly Coach Ara Parseghian, Coach Digger Phelps, and Coach Stu Aberdeen.

"Excel is part of my foundation as a player and as a coach, one of the most influential experiences in my life. The coaches of Excel have been like family to me since I was 10 years old! After working in the NBA for four different teams, (Lakers, Kings, Suns, and Mavericks) it’s never been more evident: Excel is the best basketball Camp in the country, run by the most passionate coaches in the world. With an emphasis on fundamentals and creating habits, Excel gives you the tools to be successful as a basketball player, and as a person.”–

Greg St. Jean: Assistant Coach, Los Angeles Lakers
